Christian Meditation Questions & Answers:
Is it God or is it Just My Imagination?
It’s your imagination connected to the mind and heart of God. God created you with an imagination so that you can dream, envision and contemplate your destiny in Him. Your imagination is the part of you where you conceive things. You cannot give birth to what you have not conceived. If you can’t see it with your imagination on the inside you won’t be able to do it on the outside.
Christian guided meditation creates an atmosphere that inspires you to glorify ( value and prize ) God in your imagination. If you glorify God you will experience God. It will help you keep your mind on Him rather than your soulish thoughts.
Genesis 6:5 says, And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. People see negative things. So often the imaginations and thoughts of the human heart are ungodly.
Christian guided meditation counteracts negative thinking by leading you to focus on the character, righteousness and Word of God. When you contemplate on the glory and goodness of God, feelings of gratitude, expectation and joy will begin to ignite inside you. Negative thoughts and emotions will be replaced with an expectancy of God’s faithfulness.
What Does it Mean for Christians to Meditate?
Meditation is a time to prayerfully ponder, reflect on, muse, and ‘chew’ the words of Scripture. Christian guided meditation re-focuses us from ourselves and from the world so that we reflect on God’s Word, His nature, His abilities, and His works. When you meditate on Jesus you experience God, awaken your spirit and find rest for your soul.
Is Meditation Biblical?
Christian meditation is rooted in the Bible. In fact, the Bible commands us to meditate. In Joshua 1:8, God says to meditate on His word day and night. Psalm 77:10 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.
Psalm 145:5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
Biblical mediation is not anything like transcendental meditation, new age or yoga; you don’t become detached in your mind from thoughts or images when mediating on God and His Word through Christian guided meditation.
Eastern meditation however, focuses on emptying the mind of thoughts or images and is not in line with Scripture.
