Let’s talk about how God responds to dirt.
When I was a little girl, I loved to play outside in the dirt. At the end of the day I barreled into the house, my cheek’s, chin and nose smeared with dirt, smelling like the world.
My mom took my face in the palm of her hand and pulled out a tissue from somewhere inside her purse. Next, she licked the cloth and wiped my dirty face until it was clean. Yuck, It wasn’t pleasant!…it never is when the stains of the world are cleansed from us.
A similar thing happens when you come home to the Lord after wandering in the world. God responds to dirt with mercy. He responds to your brokenness by wiping the dirt off your face with a clean white cloth.
He polishes your skin with oil and releases His glory upon you, that you might glow with the dew of His holy kiss.
God responds to dirt with grace.
He waited for you to come home so He could receive you as a son, give you the keys to His house and reward you with the riches of your inheritance in Him.
So come, barrel into His house with mud on your feet, dive into His open open arms with the dirt on your face and begin again…
Just come as you are to the throne of grace!
The prodigal son
Luke 15:20-24 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.
Oh what Grace! What a merciful father we have.
Prodigal Son Similarities found in Adam. Gen 3
7 Then the eyes of the two of them were opened [that is, their awareness increased], and they knew that they were naked; and they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings…
God’s first son and daughter tried to repair and cover their own sin.
8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool [afternoon breeze] of the day, so the man and his wife hid and kept themselves hidden from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. God’s Presence is always available to us. Hebrews 13:5 AMP. “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!” We are the ones who choose to conceal ourselves from God.
But the Lord God called to Adam, and said to him, “Where are you?” Certainly God knew where Adam was, but He wanted Adam to realize where he was and how he had gotten there. He was giving Adam that aha moment that every prodigal needs; A moment of clarity.
He (Adam) said, “I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” God said, “Who told you that you were naked?” Here, God is helping Adam understand the source of his fear, that being satan, the serpent.
21 The Lord God made tunics of [animal] skins for Adam and his wife and clothed them. It’s not like God pulled out a sewing machine and make them cute fur outfits. lol God takes an animal (most likely a lamb) and skins it. Skinning an animal is a bloody mess.Than He covers them in the blood soaked flesh of the lamb! Covering and atoning for their sin, great as it was. What a beautiful prophetic image!! God still offers that atonement to us through the blood of His son, Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God!
A Contrite Sinners Prayer for Pardon. Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your loving kindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness and guilt
And cleanse me from my sin.
For I am conscious of my transgressions and I acknowledge them;
My sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
And done that which is evil in Your sight,
So that You are justified when You speak [Your sentence]
And faultless in Your judgment.
I was brought forth in [a state of] wickedness;
In sin my mother conceived me [and from my beginning I, too, was sinful].
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part [of my heart] You will make me know wisdom.
Purify me with [a]hyssop, and I will be clean;
Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness and be satisfied;
Let the bones which You have broken rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted and return to You.
Rescue me from blood guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation;
Then my tongue will sing joyfully of Your righteousness and Your justice.
O Lord, open my lips,
That my mouth may declare Your praise.
For You do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.
By Your favor do good to Zion;
May You rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Then will You delight in the sacrifices of righteousness,
In burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then young bulls will be offered on Your altar.
