Why Hasn't God Answered My Prayer

Do you ever feel like God’s ways are more like a puzzle than a painting? It can be baffling, but God doesn’t play mind games with us. However, he does seem to like the game of hide and seek!

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; And the glory of kings to search out a matter. – Proverbs 25:2

During my search for understanding, I learned some things about my prayer life that I’d like to share with you. This is an older post, but it still gives me perspective today.

So let’s do a little digging and gain some insight about your unanswered prayers.

Another year has come and gone, and once again I find myself asking, “Why hasn’t God answered my prayer? I wonder, where is the blessing from the work of my hands? I walk with Jesus, and I believe I am in God’s will, but what if I’m not? What if I misunderstood what God asked me to do? Sometimes I think, did I really hear God, or is just me, trying to impose my own desires into God’s will for my life?

Once more, I asked the Lord, “Are you going to answer my prayer?” This time God replied with a question, “What can you believe for?”

“A 100 fold blessing,” I confidently replied.

Then God spoke clearly  to my heart, “If I do what you ask of me, are you ready to receive it”?
I pondered the question. I hadn’t considered that and my heart sank a little.

I responded with a simple, “no”.
“Then get ready!” God replied. I felt his encouragement, and once again faith stirred within me. I started taking the steps that would put my faith into action.

Sometimes Faith Requires Action.

When  we apply action to our faith, it says that we expect God to come through for us. God doesn’t need our help, but sometimes we need to prepare the way for the answer to come.

Have you ever asked God for something, and did nothing to prepare yourself to receive it?

If you thirst for water, dig a well.
If you need oil, gather and prepare your vessels to hold it.
If you hunger for a harvest, put your hand to the plow and plant some seeds.
If you desire reconciliation,  humble your heart and repent.
If you hope to remove the speck out of your brothers eye, take the log out of your own.
If you want more, be faithful with the little.
If you yearn to enter the promised land, conquer your fear of the giants.

What steps can you take today, to prepare yourself to receive what you’ve been praying for?

Why Hasn't God Answered My Prayer?Next time you ask God, why he hasn’t answered your prayer, consider what you have done to make ready, and prepare the way for the blessing of the Lord.

Perhaps you have all your ducks in a row and God still hasn’t answered your prayer.

I don’t have all the answers, but you may gain understanding when you ask yourself the following questions:

Prayer Check List:

• Is your prayer life led by your desires or by the Holy Spirit?
Colossians 1:9 – We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.

• Do you have complete peace about what you are asking for?
Romans 8:6 – So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”

• Do you know what season you are in?
Ecclesiastes 3:1 – For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

Are your motives glorifying God?
James 4:3 – When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

• Have you used your voice to decree over this matter?
Job 22:27-28 – You will pray to him, and he will hear you; And you will pay your vows. “You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways.

• Do you understand and use your authority in Christ?
Matthew 17:20 – If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

• Have you gotten discouraged, lost your joy, and and quit praying before your breakthrough came?
1 Thessalonians 5:16 – Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

• Are you fasting in connection with your prayers?
Daniel 9:3 – So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes.

• Have you sensed that spiritual warfare may be interfering?
Daniel 10:12-13 – Then he (the angel) continued, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom (demonic) resisted me twenty-one days.

• Are you asking in Jesus’ name?
John 16:4 – Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
What can you believe for? Matthew 21:22 – If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask in prayer.”

• Have you appropriated the blood of Jesus?                                                                                                                              We can apply the precious blood of Jesus to every place in our lives and every part of our being; body, soul and spirit. Their is supernatural life in the blood of Jesus! Hebrews 9 – The high priest sprinkled blood on the mercy seat of the ark behind the veil of the temple. It is here, where God’s mercy meets with us on the shed blood of the lamb. Power and life is in the blood!

And once you have done all these things – Stand firm, hold fast to faith and Wait on the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Habakkuk 2:3 “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”
